I’m Raashid; I live in Bradford and work in Manchester. When I’m not working I spend a lot of my time with my extended family who mean a lot to me. In between family time, I try to get involved with different activities. I enjoy trying different food which I combine with my love for cooking👨🏻🍳 but I prefer eating out more! I like going to theme parks for the adrenaline rush of the fast rides, especially swings and rollercoasters🎢

I’m a clinical scientist working in a hospital alongside the critical care teams who care for some of the really sick patients. I work as part of a team of 10 scientists across all areas of the hospital and with all age ranges from preterm babies to toddlers, and young people to adults. My work is to provide clinical, scientific and technical support and to advise the teams of staff involved in patient care. A large part of my job involves working with important life saving machines that support patients organs.

My Typical Day:
My day is spent working with different teams on the intensive care unit to help with the safe delivery of care and therapies.

I start work at 8am, as a team we sit and plan what we would do through the day. I would either spend the day in the adults or the children’s hospital.
The first task of the day would be to check the important equipment which is used often and make sure it is available and working correctly. There’s lots happening on each unit throughout the day so, I could be asked;
– To support moving a critically ill patient from the ICU to a different part of the hospital, such as radiology if they need a CT scan or theatre if they need an operation,
– To run a specific test on a patient’s blood sample,
– To set up machines for therapies that could be used to support the patient’s brain, heart, lungs or kidneys.The plans change on a daily basis and new tasks are added to the list of jobs we have, so before the team finishes for the day we all sit together again and go through the jobs we have completed throughout the day. This is so the person on shift through the night knows what’s happening on the units.
