Favourite thing to do in my job: Playing detective to try and work out why people feel sick
Love my family, pets, sport, food and holidays!
I live in Sheffield with my Husband and our dog, a cockerpoo called Alfie. I love food and am always eating! I love being on holiday. I like most sports, especially football. I am an Bristol city fan (unfortunately, we are not very good!). I am always busy doing something..!
Heart doctor trying to prevent heart attacks with computer programs
I spend half my time as a doctor specialising in hearts and the other half researching heart disease. As a doctor, I try to make people feel better, spend a lot of time talking to patients and their families and do lots of procedures on patients (mostly involving large needles).
In my research, I am making a computer program (basically a fancy computer game) that can tell us how to treat a patient. I make pretty pictures of peoples heart arteries and predict what would happy to the blood flow in them with different treatments.
My Typical Day
Every day is different ..
No two days are the same.
As a doctor, rushing around trying to help people feel better, sticking needles in places (mostly hearts), playing detective to work out why people feel ill and talking to patients and families.
As a researcher, playing on a computer making pretty pictures of peoples hearts, drinking coffee, trying not to fall asleep in meetings.
What I'd do with the prize money
Visit schools to show our computer programme
Make a version of out computer tool that is child friendly and can be used to educate children about our research and the heart. Arrange visits into local primary schools to show it to pupils.
