Animal testing is very important in research. A lot of my work is done in cells that many many years ago were donated by a person. We use these cells to learn lots of important and interesting things about cancer. The cells can only help to a certain point though, as humans are very complex and lots of cells ‘talk’ to each other in our bodies. We use animal models to test out what we discover in cells to see if it could be true in humans, too.
I should also say that any work done with animals is very closely checked by the government and they are looked after as well as possible and spared any harm wherever it can be avoided.
