I have treated lots of people who are having heart attacks. When this happens blood to the heart muscle is blocked and it becomes starved of oxygen. This can be very dangerous and can cause the heart to stop. We treat this by passing tubes into the arteries (the blood vessels that take the blood to the heart) and putting stents in to open the arteries up and allow blood to get through. I have had to do this on patients who’s heart kept stopping. We had to keep giving electrical shocks to the patient to re-start their heart whilst doing the procedure.
