• Question: Why did you decide to become a scientist what inspired you to be who you are ? I would like to be a vet because it would fill me with pride to know that I have done something to make someone smile rather than sleeping with I what I usually get up to in my spare time

I enjoyed science at school and was lucky to have friends that also enjoyed science. I particularly liked the practicals and the write up of lab reports – which then made me want to apply for and study biomedical science at university. I’ve always had a passion to help others and have worked at care homes and at events for children – so would have been happy to pursue a career down either paths.

As I child, I spent a lot of time with doctors and seeing how much they could help me and others. On top of this l loved science and learning about the human body. It is just so clever and it still amazes me! When I left school I decided I wanted to be a doctor so I could continue learning about the human body and I could help people. Being a vet would be great 🙂

I wanted to be a vet when i was younger (around 10/11)!

I also grew up with my dad having heart problems which made me interested in the human body and why things go wrong.

I think being a vet is a really worthwhile career to go into because people often care more about their pets then themselves!

      😉 sleep is pretty important!

I got interested in science jobs because I really enjoyed maths and wanted to do something with numbers and problems to solve. I didn’t really mind what kind of job it was, as long as I was going to enjoy it. At school, teachers just told me to keep choosing things I enjoyed doing – so I did – there was no big plan! Science is just one of the things I enjoy, and I’m still doing lots of other stuff too.

I think it is brilliant to have a dream job – it gives you a good reason to want to work hard. Lots of scientists are the kind of people who love what they do (more than they love making money). Wanting to make people happy is a great reason to be a vet.

I got interested in science because i was always fascinated in how the things around me work. I was also lucky that i had good science teachers at school that made it fun to learn.

I think being a vet is a fantastic career option! Animals are really important to the way we live our lives and unlike humans they can’t simply go to a doctor and say what’s wrong with them, so having vets who care a lot about the well being of animals is really important.

I loved science at school, and had great science teachers, which always helps. I used to watch TV documentaries about nature/biology, and especially marine biology, and both of these things made me want to study science. I have always been fascinated by the human body and how it works – it does so many amazing things! The move into Nursing was sort of an accident really, but was related to the experience of seeing my brother die suddenly when he was 18, and wanting to do something to help other sick people. I then went back to university after I was a nurse to study biomedical sciences, which I love. Now I use both the Nursing and the biomedical science in my job, which is great. Being a vet would be an amazing job (I love animals), and I also love sleep! Sleep is extremely important to human health. 🙂
