I wish I had a good answer for this one, but I don’t really!
I liked maths, but I also liked working with my hands, so I left university looking for any science job where I would need to be careful and good with numbers. I worked for a little while making chemicals which allow us to see what is happening inside people. Then I got curious about all the other jobs going on in the hospital where I worked. The people working in the Hearing and Balance department all seemed very happy doing their work, and there were lots of interesting things happening at that time; ‘digital’ hearing aids were new and screening the hearing of all newborn babies in the UK was just about to begin. So, I decided to give it a try.
The nice thing about working with ears is that most people are happy to come and see us – we don’t do anything to hurt them!
