Yes, if I am totally honest, but as a healthcare worker you must treat everyone the same. It is a vital part of the job, and it is good to remember that you never know why someone is acting in a particular way. I think this is true about lots of things in life, so always best to be kind.

No, I haven’t. Partly because I am a very tolerant person and partly because the people who come into our department are normally lovely. We don’t get people coming in in a lot of pain, like A&E might. The people I see don’t spend more than an hour or two with me, and I can put up with almost anyone for that length of time.
We leave notes on our hospital system if we have concerns about someone’s behaviour (e.g. swearing or saying something racist) and we make sure that they see someone next time who is prepared for that.

Not really. Everyone is different with different lifestyles, upbringings, cultures and life experience. So it is important to treat everyone equally as you don’t know what they’ve been through, so treating everyone equally is the key.

Although on ICU most patients are in a medical coma caused by special medicine, we do have patients that come out of the coma and can be delirious and there can be patients that are difficult and don’t cooperate, which can be difficult and we are provided with training to help cope with such issues. There are definitely times when you just think “oh come on behave” and then you just carry on.

You try to look past the person and treat the problem but sometimes you can’t help feeling certain ways

As everyone has already said we have to treat everyone the same and try our best not to judge them based on the way they are acting. This can be very difficult at times, especially when people are shouting at you or your colleagues. You don’t know what they are going through and they may just be scared.
