Intensive care provides support to patients on a one to one basis, so there will always be one nurse looking after one patient, with the support of a senior nurse who would oversee a group of patients and nurses aseell as a shift coordinator (a senior nurse) who oversees the entire unit.

Aswell as nurses there are other teams like doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, healthcare support workers and my team – the scientists to name a few. So you’re never on your own with patients and there is lots of support from the different teams and staff.

Having said that it is always a little scary and nerve wrecking when you know that the patients, their families and friends are relying on all teams for their input to help support the care of their loved ones.

We all get on with our jobs and take our roles and responsibilities seriously to provide the best care and outcome for our patients.
